Proudly presented by The Bondi Theatre Company, Uked! – The first play-along ukulele musical by Jane Cafarella, premiered in Victoria in 2019 to sell-out seasons, and in Auckland, New Zealand, in 2024, Uked! brings passionate ukulele players and theatre lovers together in an uplifting fun story that YOU can be part of.
The story
Uked! is the hilarious and poignant story of KARLA, who is dumped by her violin-playing boyfriend on her 50th birthday. Between caring for her aged mother and working at Pack n’Track with her friends, Karla begins to worry that she’ll never find love. The world is changing and she’s struggling to find her place in it. Desperate to belong and to prove her musical worth, Karla buys a ukulele and joins a dating site – learning that love and the ukulele have a lot in common.

Bring your ukuleles and sing and play along with our heroine KARLA, as she learns the ukulele on YouTube with a hilarious variety of teachers, led by the Uked! band. Chords and lyrics are displayed on screen and chord banners decorate the theatre. Come along with your club, be part of the interactive audience and join in the fun!
Hate audience participation? Don’t play the uke? No problem. Just sit back and enjoy the show.
Be on stage with Karla as her fellow club members
Be on stage with KARLA as a Volunteer Performer, playing one of her fellow club members. Clubs and beginners welcome. (Remember, Karla is a beginner too!). Four VPs are required each night. You’ll receive the Uked! Song Book in advance, along with your part of the script. You’ll also attend two rehearsals and receive free merch and discounted tickets.

Be in the band
Professional players and seasoned ukulele teachers are invited to register their interest to audition for the band. Two players are required (bass and tenor). Includes a small walk-on acting role. The band plays all the songs and leads the audience.
